I don’t know where to begin….


My husband and I have recently separated.  I am not sure what my next step is.  Do I call a lawyer? I am so confused. Any tips on divorcing in Ontario would be greatly appreciated.

I think everyone is different but I know for me I could have saves a lot of time and energy – not to mention money – if I had gone to a therapist first and then a mediator.  My ex wife and I were able to figure out our parenting plan and finances amicably and didn’t need to waste so much money on lawyers fees.  We could have had a family mediator help us with the parenting plan and used our lawyer to close out the documents!

Trina — a friend of mine used a divorce coach before she went to a lawyer.   Truthfully I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a divorce coach!!    She’s said she was so overwhelmed and the coach helped her organize her thoughts and emotions and set out a path for her before seeking a lawyer.

Contact a therapist who has dealt with these situations.  That’s your best bet.  A good and qualified therapist will have a resource list to refer you onto other professionals in due course.  Looking after yourself is number one.
